Sister Valerie Lemansky

Sister Valerie Lemansky, age 90, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.

The former Dorothy Lemansky was born on November 2, 1932, in Menominee, MI, daughter of the late Stanley and Violet (Senn) Lemansky Sr. She entered the convent in 1955 and professed her vows in 1957. Sister Valerie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin and a Master’s in Education in Administration Supervision through John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio.

Sister Valerie ministered as a teacher at St. Philip, Green Bay and St. Joseph, Waukesha, both in Wisconsin; St. Benedict, Cambridge, and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, both in Ohio; and as principal at St. Benedict, Cambridge, Ohio; Guardian Angels, West Point, Nebraska; St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii; and St. William, Waukesha; Holy Rosary, New Holstein and St. Peter the Fisherman, Two Rivers, all in Wisconsin. Sister Valerie was also assistant to the principal, San Xavier, Tucson, Arizona. She was a part-time helper in the library at Silver Lake College/Holy Family College, while living at Chiara Convent, Manitowoc and later was a volunteer in the school and parish at St. Theresa, Kekaha. Sister Valerie ministered in the prayer apostolate while living at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since 2018 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc.

Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; sisters-in-law: Marie Lemansky and Judy Lemansky, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Stanley and Violet Lemansky; brothers: Stanley Lemansky Jr., Mark Lemansky, James Lemansky and Francis Lemansky; and sisters: Valeria Lemansky and Karen Lemansky.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, 2409 S. Alverno Rd., Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, OFM. with burial to follow at the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm at the Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
