Sr. Verone Leeman Obituary

Sister Verone Leeman, 86, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 18, 2025 at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, WI.

The former Geraldine Ann Leeman was born on June 30, 1939 in Green Bay, WI to the late Monroe Harvey and Veronica Josephine (Hendricks) Leeman. She entered the Convent in 1955 and professed her vows in 1958. Sister Verone Leeman earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Sister Verone ministered as a musician at various schools: St. Ambrose, Ironwood, Michigan; St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii; St. Mary, Bloomington; St. Rose, Clintonville and Corpus Christi, Sturgeon Bay, all in Wisconsin. She served as a nursing assistant during her years at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna and St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc, both in Wisconsin. While at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio, she served in Pastoral Ministry. Sister Verone readily served in other capacities at various places where she ministered: homemaker at St. Francis Memorial Hospital, West Point, Nebraska; volunteer to visit the sick and homemaker, Kekaha, Hawaii; library aide at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, Manitowoc; organist and kitchen helper at San Damiano, Slinger and kitchen helper and nursing assistant at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, all in Wisconsin. Since 2021 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center where she was a member of the Community’s Prayer Apostolate.

Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, siblings (in-laws): Sister Pauline Marie Leeman, Jeanne Zepnick, William (Barbara) Leeman, Betty Lou Ferron, (Cathie Leeman), (Gene Van Boxtel), Joseph (Debbie) Leeman, Peter (Anita) Leeman, Daniel (Marie) Leeman, (Marcia Leeman), and Teresa (David) Rosenbaum, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Monroe and Veronica (Hendricks) Leeman, siblings: Sister Elizabeth Marie Leeman, Mary Ann Brocker, James Leeman, Janet Van Boxtel, Tom Leeman, John Leeman, and in-laws: Don Zepnick and Lonnie Ferron.

 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiation will be the Rev. Gerald Prusakowski, OFM, with burial to follow at the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.

The family will great relatives and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 a.m.
