Velva Seehafer Obituary

Velva “Jean” Seehafer, age 86, of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in the comfort of her home.

Jean was born on March 24, 1936 in Marshfield, WI to Olaf and Sara Rasmussen. She graduated from Marshfield High School, class of 1954. After high school, Jean worked for Parkin Ice Cream Company as a receptionist, later moving to Rollahome Corporation as a secretary.

Jean married Don Seehafer on September 20, 1958 at First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2020. Together, they moved to St. Peter, MN and purchased their first radio station in 1960 where Jean worked as a receptionist and secretary. She was a devoted wife and mom who worked tirelessly raising four children, and later enjoyed life as a grandma and great grandma.

Jean enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining, leading her to put on many memorable cocktail and dinner parties and countless family dinners and holidays and even to write and publish her own cookbook. Jean enjoyed traveling with Don and her family, exploring from one corner of the United States to the other and everywhere in between. Jean also enjoyed supporting Wisconsin sports as well as attending many Packers, Badgers, Super Bowls, Badger Rose Bowls, and Brewer games. Jean and Don spent 32 years traveling to Cocoa Beach, FL each winter where they made some of their best memories, creating new traditions and making new friendships as well as enjoying time with family and visitors.

Jean is survived by her children: Sandy and Dick Halverson, of Valders, Karen and Cameron Stevenson, of Manitowoc, Mark (Julie Gresl) Seehafer, of Two Rivers, and Debbie Seehafer, of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren:  Jacob (Jessica Scheffler) Halverson, Terry (Katie) Stevenson, Anderia (Chad) Frank, Trevor (Julie Jeske) Seehafer, Brennan (Shilah) Seehafer, Derek Stevenson, and Mateo Seehafer; five great grandchildren: Lauren and Ethan Halverson, Harper and Halle Frank, Wyatt Seehafer, and another great grandson due in December. She is also survived by a cousin: Duke (Sue) Jacobson of Marshfield, many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents: Olaf and Sara Rasmussen; her father-and mother-in-law: Bill and Clara Seehafer; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ray (Rita) Rasmussen, and Vern (Joyce) Rasmussen; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Esther (Lloyd) Riedel, and Dorothy (Cliff) Riedel.

Funeral services for Jean will take place on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:30 am at The Venue at Union Square, 702 York St., with Rev. Jeremy Vance officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Venue at Union Square from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:30 am. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
