Virginia (Strope) Posny Obituary

Virginia Ruth Strope Posny of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, formerly of Two Rivers, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She was 100 years old. She was the wife of the late Louis J. Posny, daughter of the late Karl Strope and Margery Strope (MacPherson), loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was born May 31, 1921, in Stevens Point, WI. After graduating from Stevens Point Normal High School, she attended the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. She later worked as a secretary, a paraeducator, and for the United States Air Force to support her family after her older brother, Douglas, left to serve in World War II. At UWSP, she met her future husband, Louis Posny, who was the king to her queen at their college senior prom. Virginia and Louis were married for 50 years before his passing in 1996. In August 2020, at the age of 99, the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point awarded her the Associate’s Degree she’d completed but never received 80 years prior.

Virginia was an avid crossword puzzler, bridge player, reader, and Green Bay Packer fan. She was also an eight decades member and employee of Grace Congregational Church, Two Rivers.

She is survived by her children: Wendy Perry and her husband, Jim Perry of Bloomington, Indiana; Alexa Posny of Washington, D.C.; Doug Posny and his wife, Dale Posny of Jensen Beach, Florida. Her daughter, Jann Wetenkamp of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, passed away in 2002. In addition to her children, she is survived by her son-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Wetenkamp of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, who served as her landlord and caretaker for the past 25 years; eight grandchildren, Jennifer “Jenny” Genovese (Perry), Jacqueline “Jackie” Daniels (Perry), Jaime Granger (Wetenkamp), Lindsay Wetenkamp, Chase Wetenkamp, Alek Pochowski, Drake Posny, Drew Posny; and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Genovese, Colby Genovese, Bailey Daniels, Sam Granger, Maggie Granger, Cash Wetenkamp, Gray Wetenkamp, and Caroline Posny.

Please donate to the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ARDC) for Manitowoc County in Virginia’s honor instead of flowers. Virginia loved the meals on wheels and daily visits by the ADRC over the past decade.

A celebration of her life will be held next summer.
