Yvonne LeGreve Obituary

Yvonne was born on October 11, 1947 in Sturgeon Bay to Raymond Ole Berg and Marie Mabel (Hoffmann) Berg. grew up in Rio Creek, attended school in Casco, married Ken LeGreve on August 26, 1967 and he preceded her in death on July 02, 2024. She worked in manufacturing roles at Paragon and Crescent Woolen Mills, cooked for the The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and The Galley and baked at Piggly Wiggly, plus candy making at Beernsteens.

Yvonne married young, gave life to 5 children in 8 years. Greatly affecting her was the tragic loss of Mitchell in 1975 at the age of 1 month. Also terribly affecting her was the completed suicide of another son Mathew in 2003. Her deep desire to be a stay at home mom was not possible as the need for more income forced her away from being closer to her children. This was another great weight on her. She was very open about the impacts of addictions, mental health challenges, generational wounds and traumas within our family, nation, and world. This empathy and compassion also weighed heavy on her. Even though these conditions beyond her control impacted her she always held hope, faith, and love for others and the future. Given a chance she would have healed all the pain that she saw others carry, but knew she couldn’t, so was present and attentive to hurting souls. Her participation in various Christian retreats with her husband, children, and grandchildren was just one way she tried to heal and restore self, family, and community. Spiritual very much but not religious so much as it was so hard to separate the humanity of human behavior and the divinity not quite ever fully represented. Not disrespectful but holistically keeping a safe distance. A quiet and reserved person with more than a few quirky behaviors. Living in the shadow of a husband who received most of the attention she was able to silently support her family to the best of her ability. At times she was somewhat forgotten but she knew that the last shall be first. She loved dying her hair bright purple in recent years. A free spirit who in recent years truly enjoyed having an apartment of her own and no one to take care of. She could be and do as she honestly wanted to without feeling guilty or shamed. Most of this was something very few knew about her but were held closely and privately like most women putting on a happy face for the world.

Instead, she was known for her great joy of seeing the world through the eyes of children, especially her own children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces / nephews. She loved baking for others most famously known for her desserts. Of great joy was packing up the kids in the car for a trip to a museum, zoo, movies, playground, beach, or theatre. The annual trip to see the Nutcracker with the grandchildren is still spoken of. Far too often in the 2000’s she allowed the grandchildren far too many LimeWire and online game downloads, pretty much always infecting her computer with viruses. Endless supply of food, snacks, and mountain dew made her home a beloved destination. She adored listening to stories and adventures of children and what they loved about life. She definitely passed along a great love of music and baking to her grandchildren. Even after a hard day's work she always walked in the door surprised and joyful that the grandchildren were visiting even though they totally messed up her space. She was just a warm, loving, inviting, and accommodating person to all.
